The fight for better wildlife policies is heating up—are you in?
As we head into 2025, Wildlife for All’s mission is more critical than ever. With federal agencies threatening to delist wolves and grizzly bears and permit wildlife killing driven by special interests, reforming state wildlife management is essential. State-level action is where real, lasting change begins—and it’s key to tackling the interconnected crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and democratic erosion.
The election may be over, but our fight for wildlife and ecosystems continues. Here’s how we can stay engaged:
- Act Locally: Build coalitions in your state to reform wildlife management and partner with groups that prioritize biodiversity and justice-driven policies. Collaboration strengthens our collective movement.
- Be Heard: Attend meetings, submit comments, and hold state agencies accountable for prioritizing science-based conservation.
- Shift the Narrative: Help educate your community on the need to move beyond outdated practices to policies rooted in ecosystem health and equity.
- Stay the Course: Transforming wildlife governance takes time, but together we can sustain a long-term movement for systemic reform.
Wildlife for All is here to guide and support this work. Together, we can create a future where all life thrives.
With gratitude,
Michelle Lute

What We’ve Been Up To
- We’re thrilled to welcome Kavya Parsa, a leader in animal law and licensed wildlife rehabilitator, to our Board of Directors! With their deep expertise and passion for coexistence and ecosystem health, Kavya will help drive our mission to transform wildlife management for a more inclusive and compassionate future.
“I am excited to join Wildlife for All and support its vision for transforming wildlife management to reflect shared values of democratic governance, justice and coexistence,” said Parsa. “The intersection of wildlife coexistence and advocacy offers immense potential for systemic change, and I’m eager to contribute to this vital mission.”
We’re excited to have Kavya’s insight and leadership as we continue to advocate for systemic change in wildlife governance. - We’ve also been busy helping advance governance reform and transparency across states! We joined a coalition to submit a petition to the Arizona Game and Fish Commission to ban the harmful practice of hounding, which uses packs of dogs to hunt mountain lions, bears, and other mammals, and in Montana, rallied supporters to oppose a wolf trapping plan that removed all setbacks near the Bitterroot National Forest. We called on supporters to send comments to the Virginia and Tennessee wildlife commissions in open submission periods; helped the New Hampshire coalition plan for the legislative session; are assisting Vermont, Wyoming, and Washington in their searches for commissioners; and drove comments on a 10-year mountain lion management plan in Colorado and a 5-year black bear management plan in Idaho.

What's Coming Up
- WEBINAR 1/15/25: Kevin Bixby, Wildlife for All’s senior advisor, will give a talk entitled Reforming State Wildlife Management to Address Today’s Conservation Crisis on Wednesday, January 15, 1 p.m. MT. This presentation is part of an exciting webinar series hosted by the Policy Committee of the Society for Conservation Biology North America (SCBNA) that takes a critical look at state wildlife management issues. We applaud SCBNA for seeking the views of various experts to become better informed on these issues. Other speakers in the series include Wildlife for All Advisory Committee members Fred Koontz, Adrian Treves and Bill Lynn. The series is free and open to the public. For more info and to register visit the SCBNA website.
- LEADING THE CHARGE IN NEW MEXICO REFORM: Wildlife for All continues its leadership role on wildlife matters in New Mexico, where we are part of a broad coalition of wildlife, animal protection, and hunting groups supporting comprehensive wildlife governance reform legislation. The bill—expected to be introduced during the upcoming legislative session starting in January—includes three components that have been part of separate bills in the past.
1) Expand the mission and management authority of the NM Game Commission and Department of Game and Fish to include all of the state’s wildlife species, including invertebrates such as pollinating bees (and also a name change from Game and Fish to Wildlife to reflect its broader mission);
2) Fix the Commission so it represents a broad cross-section of New Mexicans, and members are protected from being fired without cause, preventing the revolving door problem of recent years.
3) Raise hunting, fishing, and trapping license fees, which haven’t been increased in 20 years.
When the time comes, we will let our NM members know how you can support this important legislation. Stay tuned! In the meantime, you can read more here.
