From the Director: One way to measure progress is by the amount of opposition you generate. By that metric, Wildlife for All is definitely making headway. A national hunting group recently acknowledged Wildlife for All as the leader in efforts to make wildlife governance in the U.S. more democratic. An article posted on the MeatEater website, entitled “Inside the Campaign to Divorce Hunters from Wildlife Policy,” decries the growing movement to give non-hunters a voice in wildlife matters. According to the article, “Wildlife for All, an environmental nonprofit, most clearly articulates the ideas that underwrite these efforts.” It goes on to quote from the Wildlife for All website some of our criticisms of the status quo in wildlife management. The author incorrectly labels these efforts as “anti-hunting.” In reality, the goal of Wildlife for all is to democratize wildlife governance so that everyone has a voice, and to encourage state wildlife agencies to pivot from prioritizing hunting and fishing, to becoming champions of protecting all species for everyone, as a public trust. If the growing number of articles appearing like this one is any indication, we are making progress. For our future, Kevin Bixby |
